CO-PRODUCE in BULGARIA
The Bulgarian National Film Centre (NFC) is the main funding institution for animation in Bulgaria. There are several available programs, with the funding increasing every year.
- Co-production support for animated series
- Co-production support for animated feature films
- Support for development of features
- 25% cash rebate for costs incurred in Bulgaria!

The Bulgarian National Television (BNT), in partnership with ABAP, is also increasing its support for animation. Currently, BNT has a call for a pre-buy of animated series with Bulgarian participation. In September, there will be an open call for co-production of animated series with Bulgarian participation.
MEDIA funding is also available for co-productions with Bulgaria. As Bulgaria is considered a low-audio visual capacity country, participation of Bulgarian studios in Creative Europe applications brings bonus points. You can also talk to Kamen Balkanski at the MEDIA desk, who is Bulgaria’s MEDIA representative. MEDIA funding can contribute up to 500 000 EU per project. There is also a co-development fund, which offers up to 60 000 EU per participating studio.
The National Culture Fund of Bulgaria also has programs which can support animation. As part of the Recovery plan for Europe, the fund has open calls for EU co-productions in the creative industries every 2 months until the end of the year. Each call offers up to 75 000 EU per project.

"CHANGES" is a visually striking and emotionally resonant journey centered on a theme of personal growth, self realization and forging of identity, along contemporary challenges of immigration and conflict between nature and technology.

In a dystopian and seemingly godless future one man sets out to fulfil his destiny of finding the last vestiges of GOD and eliminating them. His crusade is an eerie and revelatory take on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. However, it takes a radical twist when he discovers that what lies beyond GOD could be far worse than GOD’s mysterious reappearance in a world that’s long forgotten about HIM.

"Khalo, The Zmey" is a fantastical, mystery-adventure trilogy for tweens (10-13) that taps into the unique and magical Bulgarian folklore & mythology to deliver a fresh take on friendship and love story with twists, edge-of-the-seat action, dark mysteries and lots of epicness. Think Persey Jackson meets Bulgarian Folklore & Mythology.
